You might not have to wait sitting in pharmacy queues for your prescriptions to be ready anymore. Pillpack is a new online medical service which delivers your medicine to your door through a combination of design and technology.
The service organises your medication in individual tear off bags with all your drugs organised by date and time. Going away for a long trip? Take a bunch of the dispensers before you head out. The design and typographic layout on the dispensers clearly indicate the date and time that each dispenser needs to be consumed and what drugs are included in each pack.
It’s a clever strategy in trying to solve the increasing problem of accidental prescription overdoses. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drug overdose rates in the US have more than tripled since 1990 and in my home state of Victoria, Australia, prescription drug-related deaths now outnumber those caused on the road.
The entire service seems to be well thought out in its execution. The service will contact your doctors for you so that you don’t have to continually visit your doctor for repeat prescriptions. Customers can edit their medication shipment dates through a phone app while a text messaging service will tell you when your medications are about to be sent out. The entire service is guaranteed to the point that if you ever receive an incorrect packet, they will not only refund all the monthly fees that you had paid with the service to date, but also provide you with the service for free for life if you choose to continue using PillPack. So it’s safe to say they are confident in their dispensing technology!
It’s a great example of how technology can be infused with clever packaging design for an easier customer experience.
